The Mood Ladder

What it is

The mood ladder is a visual metaphor for how emotions build on each other. When you’re at the bottom, it’s difficult to think clearly or act effectively. Your goal isn’t to jump to the top, but to climb one step at a time.

How to use it

Ask yourself: What’s one small action that could move me one rung up?

  • Getting out of bed
  • Taking a shower
  • Opening the blinds
  • Walking around the block

You don’t have to feel good to do something good for yourself. Do it because you feel bad.

Why it helps

Small wins create momentum. When you're overwhelmed, focus on movement, not mood.
