The story behind

HOMIE

Born in Norway into a modern family in need of a better way to organize and succeed together:

Portrait of Øyvind, The Father of Homie

THE FATHER (45) has been building digital products since 2000. He's a super structure geek — probably a coping mechanism for his ADHD. His biggest challenge in life is to help his daughters navigate addictive technology.

Portrait of Olivia, The Daughter of Homie

THE DAUGHTER (14) was lucky enough to inherit her father's ADHD. She has been an active tester and co-pilot in developing Homie into her most used app on her simple Mudita Kompakt e-paper phone.

We were both surprised that the display we mounted on our fridge is her go-to for staying on top of her day with Homie. It's just "there".

Portrait of Julia, The Bonus Daughter of Homie

THE BONUS DAUGHTER (11) struggled to remember her gym bag, tennis gear, ... Mum acting as a human reminder was a sub par solution for both. She now has the tool she needs to learn how to self-organize! She is also using the Mudita Kompakt e-paper phone and a display on the front door.

PS: She's obsessed with Jinx from Arcane, hence the halloween blue hair.

Portrait of Nour, The Wife of Homie

THE WIFE (33) is the type that "just remembers" stuff, except when she doesn't. She has tried and discarded organizers.

It took at least a month of seeing how we used Homie before she gave it a go, and she's now happily part of the Homie family!

She's our best and toughest critic, keeping us from over-complicating things or doing anything halfway.

Portrait of Marit, The Sister of Homie

THE SISTER (52) lives in a hay house their father built in the garden at Nesodden, Norway.

She helps the parents (85+83) organize their days and keep their father active with band practice, squash, and other stuff 85-year-olds are not supposed to do anymore.

Her active use of Homie to organize herself and the parents from day 1 has been invaluable for the development of the app.

Thank you to the Worlds #1 Beta Tester!!!

Portrait of Sonny Boy, The Dog of Homie

THE DOG aka "Sonny Boy" passed away in 1995 long before the Daughter entered our lives. He has been a part of her life since she was born as a reminder that people and animals keep on living as long as the memories are kept alive.

PS: Sonny Boy is our demo user that you'll see in screenshots from the app.

The Wife was struggling to help her Daughter succeed without micro-managing her.

The Father wanted to help and started imagining a family display on the door with routine checklists.

Early Homie prototype showing routines on an e-paper tablet mounted on a door

The first week was an intense design sprint and early prototypes. The second week resulted in an early prototype on an e-paper display on the door.

From there we have worked as a family to improve Homie every day to become our dream version of a simple family organizer.
